Career compromise is the challenge that most job seekers need to face in their career decision-making.The question of how to make a rational compromise in order to achieve better performance level and career development is not only the concerns of job seekers,but also the concerns of the organization.Studies have shown that career compromise has negative impact on individual attitudes,and that different compromise strategies have different effects.So,whether compromise on different aspects will have different impacts?Does job compromise impact job performance and how about the impact mechanism?What could organizations do to reduce negative impacts of career compromise?Existing literature cannot answer these questions.Therefore,in order to deeply explore the impact of career compromise and the role of organizations,this study uses empirical study to explore the relationship between career compromise and job performance,as well as the role of work engagement and organizational career management in that relationship.Based on expectation theory,person-job theory and social cognition theory,this paper constructs the mechanism model of career compromise on job performance.Through this empirical study,it is found out that:(1)the three dimensions of career compromise all have negative influences on job performance,among which the influences of congruence compromise is the greatest,opportunity compromise the second,and social expectation compromise the third;(2)among the three dimensions,both congruence compromise and opportunity compromise have negative influences on work engagement;(3)work engagement plays a fully mediated role in the relationship between opportunity compromise and job performance,as well as congruence compromise and job performance;(4)direct organizational career management plays a moderation role in the relationship between opportunity compromise and work engagement,as well as congruence compromise and work engagement.According to the results of the study,this paper provides suggestions for job seekers and organizational career management practice.
