Effect Of Import Of Intermediate Goods On Chinese Export Product Quality

Since 1990 s,with the rapid development of the market economy,China's manufacturing import and export trade has achieved rapid growth.China has become the main country of the world's import and export trade.Our country relies on the product price advantage in the international market to win a place.But with the international community taking measures such as anti-dumping and countervailing on China's export products,the export trade of our country received a certain degree of effect.The rise of the domestic raw materials and labor price has gradually weakened the price advantage of export products.Therefore,to improve the quality of export products is particularly important.The export product quality upgrades to a large extent depending on the intermediate products.Scholars have studied vertical effect of imports of intermediate goods.Do imports of intermediate products have influence on the quality of China's export products? Under this background,studying the relationship between the import of intermediate products and China's export product quality has important theoretical and practical significance.In this paper,we discusses the influent of the import of intermediate products,the relative proportion of input scale and the technology gap between domestic and import intermediate production on the quality of export products.Research shows that the scale of imports has a positive impact on the export product quality and the influence of technology gap shows inverted U type characteristics.The effect of relative proportion of input scale depends on the comprehensive function of the relevant and non-related imports of intermediate goods: the related imports of intermediate goods will hinder improving of the quality of export products while the non-related imports of intermediate goods will not.The higher the relative proportion of input is and the bigger the technological gap is from developed countries,the more obvious the inhibition on export product quality is,while they are exactly the reverse from moderately developed and developing countries.Therefore,our country should rationally control the scale of imports of intermediate goods,and increase human capital investment and R&D efforts to narrow the gap with the level of high technology in the world.Then,according to the present trade situation,our country should make appropriate adjustments to the direction of trade and choose proper trade partners and the share of imported products from different countries.Through these measures,our country could try to change price competition to quality competition in trade and gradually achieve the upgrading of export products quality.
