The Influence Of Import Intermediate Quality On Export Quality Of Chinese Enterprises

In recent years,China!s foreign trade has developed rapidly,and its import and export scale ranks among the top in the world.However,with the rapid development of foreign trade,the sustainable growth of import and export is faced with great challenges.On the one hand,China has relied on the export-oriented trade model and engaged in processing,assembly and other low-end links in the international division of labor for a long time.On the other hand,global trade protectionism prevails,and trade friction between China and the United States and other western countries intensifies.In the above context,how to optimize China's export structure and improve the competitiveness of China's export products has become an important issue.The report of the 19th national congress of the communist party of China pointed out that China's economy needs to move from a stage of rapid development to a stage of high-quality development.It emphasizes "quality first".In this paper,the effect of the quality of imported intermediate products on the quality of exported products is discussed by combining theory with practice.Theoretically,the quality of imported intermediate products can affect the quality of export products through three ways:technology transfer effect,quality transfer effect and compensation effect.In the empirical part,this article is based on China Customs Database and_China Annual Survey data,we respectively measure the quality of export and import intermediate product quality from the level of enterprises and according to the measured panel data study the relationship between the quality of imported intermediate products and the quality of export products,and analyze the heterogeneity from the aspects of trade pattern,enterprise characteristics and the source of imported intermediate products.The possible innovations of this paper mainly lie in:through controlling the influence of product diversity by product price,improving the method of measuring the quality of imported intermediate products,measuring the quality of imported intermediates from the level of enterprises and exploring its impact on the quality of export products.The empirical results of this paper show that the quality of imported intermediate products has a positive impact on the quality of export products,and this impact has significant heterogeneity due to different trade patterns,enterprise characteristics and imported intermediate products.In general trade,the influence of import intermediate products on the quality of export products is stronger;The larger the scale of an enterprise,the higher the total factor productivity,and the more positive the influence of the quality of imported intermediate products on the quality of exported products.Intermediate products from OECD countries have a stronger promoting effect on the improvement of export product quality.Finally,the paper puts forward the following policy Suggestions:deepen the reform of trade liberalization and promote the development of intermediate goods trade;optimize the import structure of intermediate products and encourage the import of high-tech intermediate products;encourage enterprises to increase investment in research and development and enhance the ability of local enterprises to make independent innovation.
