The number of small foreign trading enterprise has increased greatly in recent years.These small enterprises play an important role in promoting foreign trade development and increasing employment.Although lessons have been learned,a large number of small foreign trading enterprises are suffering difficulties and event failures because of the lack of competitiveness.Among the many factors,the low human resource management level and serious brain drain are what count most.The foreign traders are the core staff of small trading companies.In order to enhance competitiveness,research on the problems and influence factors of motivation in small enterprise has been carried out.Appropriate motivation mechanism which is suitable for small foreign trading enterprise has been proposed to maximize the incentive effect.Current problems and motivation demands of foreign traders has been analyzed in this paper.An optimized motivation mechanism has been proposed based on classic theories.The study background is introduced and the research status home and broad is reviewed.Motivation theories and methods are then summarized.On this basis,the study subject is analyzed in details through defining the small enterprise and foreign trader as well.Questionnaire survey is applied to study the main motivating factors in motivation mechanism of small enterprises.These main motivating factors include lack of incentive measures,limitation of development,ignoring staff training,and failing in building corporate culture,etc..These factors are further analyzed using the classical incentive theories.An optimized design of motivation mechanism for small foreign trading business is proposed in this paper.The newly designed mechanism includes four main parts:salary and welfare,career development,corporate culture and performance appraisal system.Suggestions on the incentive mechanism implementation have also been put forward.An example of the motivation mechanism design has been introduced at last.The improvement of motivation mechanism will greatly arouse the enthusiasm of foreign traders,thus achieving maximization of motivation.The study of this paper is aimed to help small enterprises' managers to accomplish strategic target and stay competitive.
