A Shipbuilding Company Production Logistics Management Problem Improvement Research

Nowadays, most global shipping enterprises are facing the severe situation of profit decline or even loss, which leads insufficient new vessel orders from shipping enterprises to the shipbuilding companies. This problem causes the obvious decline of order quantity and more operation pressure for shipbuilding industry. According to the statistics from Clarkson Research,the total volume of global vessel order is 96,5 million DWT, dropped by 12% from last year's same period; the total dealing volume of bulk carrier is only 1.77 million DWT, dropped 70% from last year's same period; For the domestic shipyards, which mainly depend on the bulk carrier vessel type, must operate by low-price policy in order to get new orders to survive. Decreasing the logistic cost is the important factor for this policy.Applied by the related basic theories including logistics and its management,JIT(Just In Time) management, ERP(Enterprise Resource Planning)system management,etc., the thesis finds out the existed problems in the course of logistic management by analyzing the present management conditions of the A shipbuilding company production logistics. It also pointed out the necessity of JIT management introduction to shipbuilding companies; meanwhile, it also analyzes the necessity and the methods and steps for the combination of JIT and ERP system management. Through the actual improvement activities of A shipbuilding company logistic management realities, it proves the implementation necessity of JIT and the combined JIT and ERP in the logistics management field.From theoretic analysis to actual problems and solution methods and steps, the thesis provides useful reference value to the same or similar industries. Furthermore,despite the fact that JIT and ERP system management have the same purpose to pursue best logistics and realization of maximal profit, they also have different focus. The JIT focuses on the control, the ERP system focuses on the planning. Therefore, the method of applying combination of JIT and ERP system to logistics management, especially the replacement of JIT "Kanban" management by ERP system information, has significant practical application value to all the other industries.
