The design and optimization of organizational structure is one of the major problems faced by most enterprises; whereas applying an appropriate organizational structure is an essential way for an enterprise to improve its management effectiveness and to overcome the limitations regarding resources, environment and technologies, etc, exerting profound influences on the enhancement of its corporate value and the core competence, as well as a sustained and healthy development.The Y company was established in 2006, a private enterprise focusing on metal material production and metal finishing. Over the years, the local market has no longer met its development needs. Meanwhile, as more and more similar enterprises have appeared, the Y company has no choice but to adopt a more regionally diversified development strategy with differentiated products. However, the existing organizational structure surely disagrees with these changes.By making an analytic case study on its internal and external environment, the SWOT and the development life cycle that the Y company is currently in, this paper has first come to a conclusion, through staff interviews and questionnaires, that not only does the existing organizational structure mismatch the development strategies made by the company, but also causes a series of problems like ineffective teamwork,unequal rights and responsibilities, inappropriate personnel allocation, ill management system,etc. Thus it is imperative for the company to initiate the reform on its organizational structure. After a theoretical and problem-oriented research, this paper has designed a new organizational structure for the Y company based on its situation, while endeavoring to secure a smooth implementation by helping the company to strengthen corporate culture building, make suitable development strategies, optimize human resources management,as well as improve internal management and control, etc.What we can draw from the case study of the Y company is that there is actually no pure good or bad organizational structures,only the appropriate ones that in accordance with enterprises' future development. An enterprise can never achieve success without a reasonable and continuously optimized organizational structure.This paper has completed the research through literature review, case study,questionnaires and interviews, aiming at making contributions to the development and research of Chinese private industrial enterprises and ones in related fields.
