Since 19 th,western countries have transformed themselves from capitalism to imperialism and have completed for commercial monopoly powers of raw materials, commercial capital and trade market. The declining Qing government has become a battleground for the major powers. When the entire Chinese nation suffered the ravage of Western powers,Tibet has experienced several strong insults though it is at the frontier, and finally reduced to the British colonialists' base for goods dumping and raw materials plunder after YaDong's opening up in 1894.YaDong's opening up,on one hand, was the most direct manifestation of the failures caused by China's struggles with the western countries on politics, economy, military and diplomacy,on the other hand, injected new elements which was different from the tradition into the Tibet society to a certain extent, which caused some changes of social representation. With the opening up of YaDong and the rapid growth of Tibetan and Indian trade,Tibet was gradually involved in the world capitalist market. This paper, with YaDong's opening up and closing as the center, the structure and equilibrium status of the import and export trade a breakthrough, explores whether or not Tibet in modern times starts "modernization" under the historical background of being forced to open up.
