China has been in a period of economic adjustment since 2012.Commercial banks play an essential role at the current stage for their role of distributing financial resources.Meanwhile,they need to coordinate with the policy raised by central government: to de-overcapacity,de-leverage,de-stocking,de-cost and to improve weaknesses.Competitive foreign banks also expose the domestic commercial banks to a more challenging environment.Developing investment banking business is one of the innovations commercial banks attempts to achieve goals and confront challenges.ICBC founded investment banking department in 2006.Though the department operated smoothly and takes an advantaged position in the industry,there exist obvious shortcomings in its business positioning,brand development and product innovation compared with foreign banks and other branches in south China.This article will compare the modes of investment banking business overseas and home based on fundamental theories and illustrate the importance of investment banking business has to transforming operation pattern andadjusting income structure.The SWOT model will be applied to analyze the competence and disadvantages of investment banking department.As a marketing manager,the author will also figure out the strategy of investment banking business in 5-year horizoncombining her direct experiences and economic reality.
