Place identity is the result of human-place interaction.Compared with sense of place,place attachment,and place dependency,place identity is more directly targeted at individuals,which internalizes place into a part of self-concept.Theory studies of identity and place identity in environmental psychology,social psychology and other disciplines make the concept of place identity more integrated,which is no longer just a dimension of sense of place,but has become an independent dynamic concept.The research on place identity in China combines the unique local traditions,national rituals,festivals and so on,but the study on place identity of seasonal second home residents still remains unknown.Second home tourism phenomenon gradually rise in China,but this special tourism consumption type has not been paid enough attention in both geography and tourism academics.Tourism urbanization is an important phenomenon in the development of summer resort,which is a "top-down" place shaping process by government.The natural landscape,material culture and the specific personal experience have all undergone tremendous changes in this process.In order to get support from bottom to top,to understand people's cognition and attitudes of those space,and to understand the process of social transformation brought by tourism urbanization,it is particularly important to study place identity of those "special" inhabitants in the background of tourism urbanization.Therefore,the place identity of second home residents of Xian'nv town,a well-known summer resort in Chongqing has been studied in this paper,providing a scientific basis and a theoretical support for the sustainable development of Xian'nv town and the harmonious development of tourism,and also providing a "people-oriented" perspective for the empirical study of place identity in the development of summer resort in the process of urbanization.The literature research method,questionnaire survey,semi-structured interview,cognitive map,participatory observation,and text analysis have been used for data collection in this study.The differences of place identity,the features of place identity,the formation process of place identity,the influence factors of place identity,and the scale and boundary of place identity have been studied in this paper.The mian conclusions are obtained as follows:(1)Sociological characteristics,such as age,marital status,educational level,occupation,and summer duration can affect the significance of place identity.And the dimension of continuity plays a key role in the formation of place identity.(2)There are three features of place identity of second home residence in Xian'nv town.They are identification for the urban construction of Xian'nv town and its distinctive urban image,insufficient recognition of the culture design of Xian'nv town,and identification for "home",which real estate business created.(3)The formation process of place identity includes three aspects: First,"escaping" the city life form the main city of Chongqing means those summer people can change their physical and mental situation and they gradually grow place identity to the summer life in Xian'nv town.Second,the forming of new "home" in Xian'nv town means those summer people can find the "selves" of their own in family and find the enthusiasm for life again,and build the family connection and emotional tie in second home.Third,through the vacation-life "community",those special inhabitants can actudlly get into the daily life of Xian'nv town,and build their own life routine in the community,with the invisible exclusion and the formation of new social structure at the same time.(4)Friends,family,other organizations,activities,etc.can strengthen the degree of place identity.And the time of living in Xian'nv town,life cycle,demographic characteristics,mass culture,and local residents can also affect the degree of place identity.(5)The scale of place identity of second home residents mainly concentrate in their "home" or rooted in their "family".Most of the respondents have chosen their home as "space origin".With the accumulation of inhabit time,the "space origin" can gradually spread to a larger area.The scale of place identity of those people seeing Xian'nv town as second hometown are broader.The segregation of communities can strengthen the boundary of place identity of those residents.
