Research On Catching-up Performance Of Technological Innovation In Chinese Top Pharmaceutical Enterprises Based On Patentometrics

ObjectiveThrough the investigation of domestic and foreign patent data of top ten pharmaceutical companies,this study applied some dimensions and corresponding index to evaluate the technological innovation performance of pharmaceutical enterprises,to explore the performance of China's top pharmaceutical enterprises'technological innovationcatching-up,to explore China's large pharmaceutical enterprises technology innovation short board,to help enterprises to carry out strategic management of technology innovation,to provide reference for relevant government departments to formulate policies.MethodsThis paper adopts the research method of combining theory with practice,including:Literature study method:Research on enterprise technology innovation both at home and abroad were reviewed,understand the relevant research on enterprise innovation perspective,the current level of progress,deeply understand the research which involved factors and evaluation dimensions of enterprise innovation;Patentometrics method:measure and analyse enterprises' patent data from different dimensions;Quantitative analysismethod:use time series analysis method,to analysistechnological innovationcatch-up trend of domestic top 10 pharmaceutical from different dimensions,put forward relevant suggestions.ResultsThis study investigated more than 90,000 pieces of patent data,which come from 20 domestic and foreign pharmaceutical companies in the past 30 years,select technology R&D vitality,technology cooperation,overseas expansionand technology value connotation as dimensions,analyzes 11 indexes,to explore technologyinnovation catch-up trend in the past 10 years,the result shows that:technology R&D vitality,domestic and foreign pharmaceuticalcompanies' in 30 years were 3565 and 87062;in the past 10 years,domestic and foreign top 10 pharmaceutical companies' average annual patent applications were 35.69 and 359.64 respectively;the average annual growth rate were 46.47%and-0.59%respectively.As for technical cooperation,in the past 30 years,domestic andforeign top 10 pharmaceuticalcompanies' average patent cooperation rates were 12.35%and 54.12%,in the past 10 years were 8.49%and 25.17%respectively;average university cooperation ratewere 2.24%and 1.43%respectively;the intensity of cooperation in 30 years were 2.86 and 1.28.From the perspective of overseas expansion potential,the average size of patent families of the top ten companies at home and abroad in the past 30 years were 1.26 and 9.77 respectively,and the average transnational patent ratios were 4.99%and 93.73%respectively.The average transnational patent ratios at home and abroad were 4.58%and 91.78%respectively in the past 10 years.In terms of technological value dimension,the average h index of top tenpharmaceutical companies at home and abroad in recent 10 years is 2.05 and 15.62respectively.The mean value of diversity index is 0.69 and 0.80 respectively,and the average patent technology width is 4.56 and 13.43 respectively.Analysis thedomestic top ten pharmaceutical companies' technological innovation catching up performance in the past 10 years,analysisthe timing diagram and the autocorrelation and partial autocorrelation,results show that the amount of patent application,the university cooperation rate,technology diversity showed a narrowing trend,1 order lag autocorrelation coefficients were 0.583 and significant level were p=0.033<0.05,p=0.037<0.05,p=0.038<0.05respectively;the trend of gap did not show significant change include:patent cooperation rate,overseas expansion,technology width,autocorrelation analysis of 1 order lag level were p=0.174>0.05,p=0.149>0.05,p=0.175>0.05 respectively.ConclusionThe results show that the number of patents produced by large Chinese pharmaceutical companies has been in a growing trend in recent years,however,the gap is huge in both quantity and quality,and technology content is not deep.The 4 dimensions of technological catch-up,selection,technology research and development activity,technical cooperation and technical value has significantly positive connotation index after the trend,while overseas expansion has yet to show a positive trend to catch up.Suggesting that compared to the international leading enterprises,Chinese pharmaceutical industry is still in the preliminary stage of technological catch-up.China's pharmaceutical enterprises should increase R&D investment,continue to maintain the momentum of innovation vitality;continue to strengthen the advantage in technical cooperation with other research institutions,enterprises and universities;pay more attention on technology patent protection in foreign countries to expand overseas market potential;to strengthen their own technology accumulation,improve the technical connotation to improve the core competence of technological innovation.
