This paper,prepared against the background of the economic development pattern evolved from the industrial revolution in 18th century,mainly takes the resource-based city as its research object,and Jinchang City,an important node city located in northwest China,is selected as the study object.Based on the research fruits from the related fields and the government documents,this paper deeply investigates the sustainable development ability of Chinese resource-based city with the method of emergy analysis,data envelopment analysis,and exponential decomposition,which embodies the Lanzhou spirit of“all streams run into river,every level's innovation contributes to entrepreneurship”,and highlights the core thought of“economic development should keep pace with resource protection and environmental preservation,which can ensure that our descendants enjoy the rich resources and good environment.”On the other hand,the conduction of this research also meets the requirement of Chinese overall strategic objective of keep sustainable development and improve comprehensive national power.In accordance with the standards of master's degree thesis,this paper is accomplished with three parts.The first part mainly introduces the background and the significance of the study,and it includes the literature review at home and abroad as well as the main innovation points and features of the thesis.The second part discusses the selection standard of the method,model and the index adopted in the study,and it also describes how the study carries on and the results obtained from the study in detail.In this part,firstly,the emergy analysis theory is used to convert the emergy of the 36 selected indicators,so as to build an emergy analysis framework for ecological-economic system,which helps the study evaluate urban metabolic efficiency from the following four aspects:economy,nature,society and sustainable development.Secondly,the method of data envelopment analysis is adopted to create the concepts of“eco-efficiency of resource”and“eco-efficiency of environment”,and then the paper further analyzes the relations between urban resource input and low emission with high economic output.Finally,as to the reasons which impact the urban metabolic efficiency,the study takes the logarithmic mean weight Divisia method to choose six factors and make a decomposition analysis on the main factors which lead to those reasons.At the end of this part,it puts forward some corresponding suggestions for the recent problems.The third part is the conclusion and expectation of this study.According to the research,the paper draws a conclusion that the waste discharge problem in Jinchang City impacts the city's metabolic efficiency,while strengthening the efforts in environmental protection can greatly contributes to the solution of the city's emission problem.Therefore,it is clear that environmental protection has turned out to be the main task for Jinchang City to improve its sustainable development ability.Last but not least,this paper puts out some suggestions for the development of Chinese resource-based cities,and the defects need to be perfected are also pointed out in the end in this paper.
