Mountain torrents have always been the focus of disaster prevention and control in China, and it is also a difficult and weak link in flood prevention. The occurrence of flood disasters in Shanhong Mountain is often accompanied by serious consequences, resulting in human and animal casualties and damage to the ecological environment. This not only causes serious economic losses, but also poses a threat to the people's personal safety. Therefore,it is very meaningful to establish an effective flood forecasting mechanism. In Guxian County of Shanxi Province, the mountain ranges, ravines, and terrain are complex. It is an area where Shanxi Province is relatively prone to mountain torrents. This study takes the Hong'anjian River Basin of Guxian County as the research object, based on the HEC-HMS hydrological model, combined with the hydrological development modules HEC-geoHMS and HEC-DSS software in the Geographic Information System(GIS),according to the collected seven rainfall stations.Rainfall data, flow data at a hydrological station, soil and land use data,DEM digital elevation model for the Honganyu River Basin, and digital watershed information such as drainage network and sub-basin to complete the construction of the flood forecasting model. In this study, two kinds of HEC-HMS hydrological model schemes were constructed to explore the applicability of the model in the Hong'anjian River basin. The combined scheme of production flow, direct runoff and river confluence using the original damage and loss method, the Snyder unit line method, and the Mussing Root method is defined as scheme 1;the production flow, direct runoff, and river convergence are adopted as the SCS curve method. The combined scheme of the SCS unit line method and Mussingen method is defined as the second plan. The above two schemes were applied to the simulation of the rainfall-periodic process at the flood rate of 6 fields in the Hong'anjian River Basin and the rainfall during the two experimental periods. The simulation results show that both schemes are in line with the requirements for the qualified flood forecasting conditions in the “Water Regimes Code”,and the comparative analysis of the scheme 1 is slightly better than that of the scheme 2.Through the simulation of the two schemes of the HEC-HMS model, the results show that the model has a good applicability in the Hong'anjian River basin.
