Graphite is widely used in petrochemical, metallurgical, light industry, electrical, military, aerospace, and other industrial sectors, with the development of graphene and other high and new technologies. The application of graphite is still expanding. The study area is located in the south of Alxa Left Banner. In the past, the main geological and research work was iron ore,and the research on graphite ore was less.In this paper, the geological characteristics, genesis of deposit, metallogenic epoch and ore-controlling factors of Yandilatu Graphite Ore and Kujinggou Graphite Ore in Alxa Left Banner,Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region are comprehensively studied, and further prospecting directions in this area and its adjacent areas are discussed. The geotectonic location of the study area is located in the Middle-Eastern part of the Qinling fold zone and the transition zone of Gansu Corridor. The metallogenic zone in this area is located in Qinqikun metallogenic region,Altun-Qilian metallogenic province,Fe-Mn-fluorite-salt-attapulgite-petroleum metallogenic zone in Gansu Corridor and Yandilatu Fe-Mo-Ni metallogenic subzone. The discovery of Yandilatu Graphite Ore has found a new breakthrough in mineral exploration in this area. The Lower Carboniferous Chouniugou Formation in this area is the ore-hosting horizon of kaolin and graphite ore,and it is a favorable area for searching for minerals such as kaolin, graphite and coal. The results of exploration in the study area show that the graphite minerals are located in the Lower Carboniferous Chouniugou Formation?C1??basin.The lithology is aluminated graphite-bearing quartzite and graphite-bearing carbonaceous slate. They are concealed orebodies with large scale. The drill hole in Yandilatu Graphite Mine controls the length of from north to south about 2200m,width from to west about 1200m,and occurs in thick layers, with the occurrence near the level and the burial depth between 45 and 60m.The thickness of ore body seen in drillholes is 16.52-110.30 m and the fixed carbon content is 2.51-9.60%.It belongs to large crystalline graphite ore.Kujinggou Graphite Mine controls the length of ore body about 1500m,the width of ore body 690m,the total thickness 120-174m,with an average of 142m.Four layers of orebodies were found, with fixed carbon content ranging from 2.56 to 18.03%.It belongs to large crystalline graphite ore.The graphite ores in this area belong to regional metamorphism type?shallow metamorphism?,and the metallogenic epoch is Late Paleozoic-Mesozoic,and tectonism has an important influence on the mineralization.Graphite ores are characterized by high polarizability and low resistance, which makes the combination of geophysical prospecting and drilling an effective exploration method for rapid evaluation of hidden graphite deposits in this area.
