Rural settlements stem from the aggregation of historical buildings.They are also conceived under the interaction of social,economic,cultural and geographical factors,and are significant carriers of perceiving the local culture.The Dingcun village,located in the south of central Shanxi,has two state-level cultural relics protection units named"Dingcun Paleolithic Cultural Relics" and "Dingcun Dwellings".Besides,the settlement is a typical representative of the Han nationality in North China.However,in the past research,there are more studies on the architectural form within micro-dimension,with fewer studies at the meso or macro levels,as well as fewer quantitative analyses on the spatial form of settlements.Based on the field investigation and data analyses of Dingcun village in Xiangfen County,Linfen City,Shanxi Province,this paper examines the spatial form and structure of the settlement in macro and meso tiers with the methods of two-dimensional graphic quantification and geographic information integration,with the aid of ArcGIS software platform.The study would benefit the macro-dimension cognitions,such as the interpretation of scale,density,distribution direction and distribution of settlements in Xiangfen County around.It also compares and cognizes the boundary and shape,space and structure,architecture and order of Dingcun settlement in-between 1977 and 2018,and tries to explore a scientific and rational spatial quantification method of settlement attributes from these two dimensions.In the first part,the changes and characteristics of the boundary and shape,space and structure,architecture and order of the Dingcun village in-between 1977 and 2018 are discussed.Such parameters will define the two-demensional form of the settlement in the meso-dimension.Actually,it is comprehensive use of theories and methods of architecture,urban and rural planning and computer graphics,analyzing the corresponding weighted average index,fractal dimension and comprehensive disorder index data.In the second part of the paper,the spatial pattern characteristics of the settlements in Xiangfen County are examined in macro-dimension.Based on the integration of geographic information,this paper discusses the characteristics of settlements in Xiangfen County Community from four perspectives:the settlement size,the settlement density,the settlement distribution orientation and the settlement distribution pattern.The spatial autocorrelation index,average nearest neighbor index and nuclear density index are also analyzed,as well as the influencing factors of settlement spatial pattern.To sum up,this paper studies settlement space of Dingcun in meso and macro dimensions,expecting to provide more specific and accurate quantitative interpretation of spatial morphology by the quantitative analytical methods of geographic information integration and two-dimension forms,in addition to the qualitative research means of traditional micro dimensions,and to explore the internal mechanism of settlement morphological space.Finally,it is aimed at seeking a scientific and sensible quantitative analysis technique of settlement morphological space,and promoting the further understanding of settlements.
