Taxonomic Study Of The Lichen Genus Coenogonium Ehrenb.from China

The lichen genus Coenogonium Ehrenb.belongs to Coenogoniaceae,Ostropales,Ostropomycetidae,Lecanoromycetes,Pezizomycotina,Ascomycota,Dikarya,Fungi.The genus has a tropical and subtropical distribution with more than 90 species worldwide,occurring usually on organic substrata,including bark,bryophytes and leaves.It is characterized by its crustose or filamentous thallus;apothecia sessile to stipitate,biatorine,rounded,disc plane,convex to concave;margin usually distinct,rarely evanescent,not prominent,smooth or denticulate,with short and dense piles;well-developed excipulum;simple paraphyses,1~1.2 ?m,usually with thickened apices(1.5~3 ?m);narrowly cylindrical asci with a thin wall and an unthickened apex lacking internal amyloid structures,8-spored;hyaline,ellipsoid to fusiform ascospores usually(0–)1-septate;absence of lichen secondary substances;photobiont Trentepohlia.Materials collected mainly from Yunnan,Hainan,Fujian,Guangxi,Hunan,Taiwan and Huibei Provinces,which are deposited in the Fungarium of College of Life Sciences,Liaocheng University(LCUF),the Herbarium Mycologicum Academiae Sinicae-Lichenes(HMAS-L)and Herbarium of Crytopams,Kunming Institute of Botany,Academia Sinica-Lichenes(KUN-L).Using the comprehensive methods of morphology,anatomy,chemistry,geography and molecular systematic,20 species of Coenogonium are reported,including 1 new species to science,viz.: C.hainanense;9 new record species in China,viz.: C.coronatum,C.curvulum,C.disjunctum,C.fallaciosum,C.geralense,C.hypophyllum,C.moniliforme,C.siquirrense and C.usambarense.All species are described in detail with the new comprehensive concept.A key to the species in Coenogonium presented.The photos of all taxa showing their habits and microscopic structures of asci and ascospores,and the drawing of each species are given in the thesis.The data and information gained from this study should be helpful to the farther systematic research of Coenogonium from China as well as the research on the diversity of lichenized fungi in the future,and redound to the research,and compilation of the Flora Lichenum Sinicorum.
