Salmonella is an important zoonotic pathogen, which causes a variety of animal diseases, including paratyphoid swine, and it is also a common bacterium in pigs. The production of pork in China accounts for 63% of the total meat production. If Salmonella is transmitted from pigs to humans along the food chain, people are also at risk to be infected.Drug-resistant Salmonella emerged in pig industry for the usage of antimicrobials widely used for the usage of antimicrobials. It will increase the cost of treatment of paratyphoid swine and human salmonellosis,Even there will be no antimicrobials available. In order to understand the resistance of Salmonella in Peng'an County,we carried out the following work.1.Isolation and identification of pig-associated Salmonella and identification of the serotypes of isolates in Peng'an.Objective: To understand the main serotypes of pig-associated Salmonella in Peng'an County.Method: Five hundred and twelve pig fecal samples were collected.Salmonella was isolated by selective enrichment and molecular biological methods. The serotypes of isolates were subsequently identified.Result: Thirty one strains of Salmonella were isolated from 512 pig feces samples, and 5 serotypes were identified. The serotyoes of 6 strains were not identified.S.Derby and S.Rissen were the dominant serotypes. Conclusion: The serotypes of pig-associated Salmonella in Peng'an County were acquired.2.Identification of antimicrobial susceptibility of pig-associated Salmonella strains isolated from in Peng'an.Objective: To understand the multi-drug resistance of pig-associated Salmonella in Peng'an County. Methods: Antimicrobial susceptibility of 31 pig-associated Salmonella strains to 27 antimicrobials was tested, and the muti-drug resistance of the corresponding strains was determined.Result: The resistance rate of 31 pig-associated Salmonella strains to ampicillin, tetracycline, doxycycline, chloramphenicol and florfenicol was more than 80%,and the strains were moderately or completely susceptible to ceftriaxone, ceftazidime, cefepime and aztreonam. One bacterium was sensitive to all antimicrobials.Twenty six isolates were determined as multi-drug resistant. Conclusion: In Peng'an County, the antimicrobial resistance of pig-associated Salmonella is very serious. Therefore, antimicrobial susceptibility testing should be carried out before the use of antimicrobials.Meanwhile, cross medication and shuttle medication should be performed.
