Research On The Impact Of Industrial Agglomeration On Export Sophistication Of Chinese Manufacturing

At present,China has become the largest manufacturing country,and has been the largest exporter of goods trade for ten consecutive years.Although it has long been defended as the "big exporter",the technological content of China’s export products is still at a low level,and there is a problem of "big but not strong".Industrial agglomeration,as an effective form of spatial organization,can help enterprises reduce costs and improve innovation efficiency through positive external effects and knowledge spillover effects.It is an important driving force for economic development and technological progress.Therefore,from the perspective of industrial agglomeration,this paper explores the relationship between the industrial agglomeration and export sophistication of manufacturing exports.This article first uses a revised index that excludes the input of imported intermediate goods to measure the export sophistication of the 31 provinces in China’s manufacturing and sub-sectors.It is concluded that from 2007 to 2017,the export sophistication of China’s manufacturing showed an upward trend.The export sophistication of the high-tech manufacturing industry is the highest,and that of the medium-tech manufacturing industry is increasing the fastest.The export sophistication has gradually decreased from the east to the west,and the gap between the central and western regions and the eastern region has narrowed.Subsequently,the levels of specialized agglomeration and diversified agglomeration in 31 provinces were measured.It was found that the eastern region had the highest level of manufacturing specialized agglomeration and the lowest level of diversified agglomeration,and the western region had the opposite result.What’s more,the level of manufacturing industry agglomeration in eastern and western regions have gradually declined,while the degree of diversification is deepening,and the central region is opposite.Based on this,the empirical research on the impact of different modes of industrial agglomeration on the export sophistication of China’s manufacturing was made,and the regression results showed that the specialized agglomeration and diversified agglomerations can promote the improvement of China’s manufacturing export sophistication technology.However,there are regional differences in each impact:only the diversified agglomeration in eastern region has a positive promotion effect,the specialized agglomeration and the diversified agglomeration in the central region have a positive promotion effect,and only the diversified agglomeration in the western region has a significant negative effect.Based on the summary of the paper,some policy recommendations was given: to accelerate the adjustment of the industrial layout of the manufacturing industry,prepare supporting measures for industrial agglomeration in terms of policy planning,service measures,financial support etc,create a knowledge and technology sharing platform in the agglomeration area,cultivate new growth momentum for the industry,open up as a whole region to enhance international competitiveness.
