In order to achieve a greater degree of the localization of gun drill,and improve the efficiency of deep-hole-drilling,based on the standard gun drill,the new types of gun drill have been designed by importing the arc-edge concept of multi-facet throry and choosing reasonable tool geometry parameters in this paper.According to the basic principles of the grinding of gun drills,the drill point mathematical model is established and the grinding way of the the new types of gun drills which are named as outer-arc-edge gun drill?tipping-arc-edge gun drill?double-arc-edge gun drill is formed.the stander gun drill has choose as a reference,processing 45 steel and 42CrMo in five groups of cutting parameters to make the feasibility and expansibility experiment in cutting performance.In the test,the cutting force and chips are analysed and the drilling characteristics under different cutting parameters are summarized,such as the cutting performance of different types of gun drills.the final conclusion is the double-arc-edge gun drill has the best cutting performance in the test The relevant conclusion in the subject would be helpful to further researches and engineering applications.
