Nitrone is the N-oxides of imine, its general formula is R1R2C=N+R3O-,wherein R3 is not hydrogen, has become an important intermediate in organic and medicinal chemistry. Therefore, the synthesis of such compounds has attracted the attention of the organic chemists. In this paper, the research progress nitrone were reviewed, and the non-catalytic aqueous phase synthesis of nitrone was studied. In the first chapter,we have described the representative methods to synthesis of nitrone. These approaches including:oxime by nucleophilic substitution oxidation, hydroxamic acids and unsaturated ester by Michael addition, oxime reaction with halogenated hydrocarbons,N-alkyl hydroxylamine compound reaction with carbonyl compound and other ways. And we have introduced the application of nitrone compounds in organic synthesis. In the second chapter,we have introduced our works about the free catalysis synthesis of nitrone in water. We reported a suitable and environment friendly method for the synthesis of a series of nitrones compounds from hydroxamic acid and dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate/diethyl acetylenedicarboxylate in water. All new compounds were further characterized by HRMS;copies of their 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectra are provided.
