To reduce odor emissions from wood-based panel used in wood furniture,and then improve air quality and human living environment,gas chromatography-mass spectrometry-olfactory technology was used to research on several different overlaid particleboards,and the basic data were provided for the further study of the odor from veneer wood-based panel.On the one hand,the key odor compounds and their sources were identified,and emission characteristics of VOCs and odors were explored.On the other hand,effects of environmental factors on VOCs and odor emissions from lacquer particleboards were determined,and the hazard assessment was conducted used a comprehensive evaluation method.Micro-Thermal Extractor was used to collect samples from two kinds of commonly used veneer particleboards(PVC particleboards,melamine-veneered particleboards),and three kinds of commonly used lacquer particleboards(particleboards coated with nitrocellulose lacquer,alkyd resin varnish and water-based paint)under ambient temperature and humidity(23±1?,40±5%)and different environment condition.Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry-olfactory technology was used to analyze.Finally,the hazard of board was evaluated by"Evaluation method of combination of subjective and objective".The main conclusions were as follows:(1)Main odor components released from PVC and melamine-veneered particleboard were aromatics,ketones,and esters.In the initial stage,the effects of ester substances on the odor of PVC veneer particleboard were greatest,and aromatic compounds had greatest influence on the odor from melamine veneer particleboard.In the equilibrium state,the aromatic compounds had greatest influence on the PVC veneer particleboard,and the effects of aldehydes and ketones on melamine veneer particleboard were greatest.(2)Veneer could help prevent the release of odors from particleboards.The TVOC mass concentration and total odor intensity of the two veneer particleboard were lower than the particleboards with the same thickness.Either veneer applied to thicker particleboard increased the total volatile organic compounds and the odor intensity.The thickness of the wooden panel had more effect on odor released from unvarnished particleboard than it did from veneered particleboard.(3)Due to the restriction of production process level,the veneer treatment of particleboards producted by a general factory couldn't seal the harmful substances,resulting in a great release of aromatic compounds contained in particleboards.The TVOC mass concentration and odor substances mass concentration of each components from veneer particleboards producted by famous enterprises were lower than that from veneer particleboards producted by a general factory,and could reach the equilibrium state faster.It is generally suggested to choose the products with big brand,advanced production line in the decoration.(4)With an increase in the ratio of the air exchange rate to the loading factor,the TVOC and the odor intensity from the two types of lacquered particleboard declined,but they increased again with an increase in temperature.When the relative humidity was increased,the TVOC and odor intensity from the nitrocellulose lacquer-coated particleboard also increased,whereas increased humidity decreased the TVOC and odor intensity from the particleboard coated in water-based paint.(5)For the veneer particleboards sample in this experiment,combined with"comprehensive index method" and "odor quality rating",the optimal placement time of PVC veneer particleboard and melamine veneer particleboard was 28 days,when the optimal placement time of particleboards coated with nitrocellulose lacquer was 63 days,and the particleboards coated with water-based paint was 49 days,at which time they reached the state of unpolluted.(6)The correlation of the total odor intensity and odor rating of particleboards,PVC particleboards,melamine-veneered particleboards,particleboards coated with nitrocellulose lacquer,and particleboards coated with water-based paint could be established by Gauss's function.A single index of TVOC mass concentration could not be used to determine the harmfulness of plates."Comprehensive index evaluation" and "odor quality rating method"should be used,at the same time pay attention to the limit of single compound concentration through combined with the I of each component,and evaluate the odor level,so as to reflect the objective situation of air quality accurately.
