The research of a kind of sustainable energy sources obtained by the fast pyrolysis of straw and other agricultural wastes has made certain progress in China. And one of its product,bio-oil,has currently been used as a fuel primarily for industrial heating applications such as boilers, ceramics, and metallurgy. However, due to its low heat value and special physicochemical properties,bio-oil cannot directly apply to the internal combustion engines in the transportation industry for now.By means of catalytic hydrogenation,bio-oil can be upgraded into a kind of hydrocarbon fuel whose quality is equal to or close to that of petroleum products. This research has important practical significance and environmental protection and emission reduction. But most of the studies are still in the laboratory stage.Additionally, the hydrogenation reactor in the petroleum industry cannot be directly used for the hydrogenation of bio-oil.Therefore,there is an urgent need to research and develop a special reactor suitable for the catalytic hydrogenation of bio-oil to produce hydrocarbon fuels. In response to the above problems, this paper combines the research and analysis of the physical and chemical characteristics of bio-oil from domestic and international research on the catalytic hydrogenation of bio-oil to research and discuss the technical requirements, process conditions, and overall solutions for the catalytic hydrogenation of bio-oil to produce hydrocarbon fuels. An overall model for the catalytic hydrogenation of bio-oil to produce hydrocarbon fuels is proposed, including the selection of catalysts and the availability of cheap hydrogen,in an attempt to provide guidance or reference for the development of straw fuels, the development of petroleum and its engineering development and production. The ratio and properties of the products of hydrocarbon catalytic hydrogenation under different reaction conditions are studied to determine the parameters such as reaction temperature, pressure, catalyst dosage and structure form of the bio-oil hydrogenation reactor.Based on this,a bio-oil catalytic hydrogenation reactor with an annual capacity of 5000 tons of hydrocarbon fuel is researched and designed.Additionally, according to the design capacity and working conditions of the reactor, the structural parameters of main reactor are determined, and the reactor is modeled with SolidWorks software. In this paper, the single-phase flow state of pure bio-oil phase in the inlet section of the reactor is simulated and analyzed by ANSYS/Fluent software. The distribution characteristics of traditional inlet diffusers are analyzed by intercepting pressure and velocity distribution in different planes, and the structure of inlet diffuser is optimized.By comparing the velocity symmetry and homogeneity of bio-oil at the exit cross section through several optimized structure diffusers, the distribution performance of the new inlet diffuser is evaluated and the optimal structure is determined. Finally, this paper theoretically studies the pressure drop and heat transfer in the catalyst bed using empirical calculations, then puts forward the control methods of bed pressure and temperature.
