Because the traditional solvent-based emulsion is harmful to environment,the environment-friendly waterborne styrene-acrylic emulsion has been widely used in coatings,adhesives,paper making and so on.However,waterborne styrene-acrylic emulsion still has some shortcomings,so it is usually modified to improve its performance.Rosin and its derivative are good modifiers,rosin is a renewable resin,non-toxic,pollution-free,low cost,a wide range of sources,and it has good compatibility with acrylic monomer,It can effectively improve the water resistance and glossiness of pure styrene-acrylic latex film.In this paper,natural rosin emulsion and acrylic acid rosin were used as modifiers to improve the waterborne styrene-acrylic emulsion.The composite emulsion has good forming film,water resistance and stability.In this paper,rosin-styrene acrylic composite emulsion was prepared by emulsion polymerization using styrene(St),methyl methacry late(MMA),2-ethylhexyl acrylate(2-EHA),2-hydroxyethyl acrylate and acrylic acid as monomers.Using rosin emulsion as modifier made rosin styrene acrylic composite emulsion by emulsion polymerization.The effects of the amount of emulsifier,initiator,rosin emulsion,drop time of monomer and the ratio of monomer on the properties of emulsion were discussed.Then it was characterized by FT-IR?TGA,GPC,DLS,DSC,TEM.The results showed that the resulting emulsion with its small particle size presented white with blue phase when the feeding time of monomer is 3 hours,the amount of the emulsifier,initiator,rosin emulsion,mass ratio of hard and soft monomer were 5%,0.8%,30%and 2.5:1,respectively.And more,the resulting film was absolutely smooth and transparent with good hardness,water resistance and adhesion properties.Then it was found that the emulsion optimized by single factor experiment was stratified after 128 days,it can be seen that its stability should be improved.So the process conditions were optimized by response surface method,it was found that the emulsion was still not stratified for 5 months,which indicated that the emulsion was stable.In addition,this paper using seed pre-emulsification semi-continuous polymerization process,MMA?St?2-EHA?HEA?AA as monomers,ONIST DPS-45 as emulsifier,K2S2O8 as initiator.The ultrasonic time,amount of emulsifier,initiator,acrylic rosin,mixing time and reaction temperature on the properties of emulsion were discussed.Then the composite emulsion was characterized by FT-IR?TGA,DLS.The results showed that the emulsion with optimum performance when the reaction temperature,ultrasonic time,mixing speed amount of the emulsifier,initiator,acrylic rosin were 80 ? 180s,300-400rpm,4%,0.6%and 3%,respectively.The process conditions were optimized by response surface method,it was found that the emulsion was still not stratified for 5 months,which indicated that the emulsion was stable.The preparation method and operation are simple.As modifiers,rosin and its derivative have low price,wide source and environmental protection.The composite emulsion has good properties,small particle size,high adhesion,good water resistance,and a bright application prospect.
