With economic development, the problem of global warming is becoming more and more prominent. As one of the important causes of global warming, greenhouse gas emissions have become the focus of many studies.Limiting greenhouse gas emissions from human activities and building a low-carbon society are the global targets.Because of our coal-based energy consumption structure,energy-related carbon emissions in China largely depend on the consumption of coal. The power industry is an important coal consumption industry. Therefore, study on carbon emissions in electric-coal supply chain is the key to the research of carbon emissions in China.Carbon emissions in electric-coal supply chain is a complex and large system, which could be divided into four subsystems: production process subsystem, transportation process subsystem, storage process subsystem and consumption process subsystem.Interrelations between different subsystems and Relationships between different variables in each subsystem are complicated. The method of system dynamics provides a way to solve the problem of complex systems.Relationships between subsystems and variables could be clearly described by causal loop diagrams and flow diagrams, and policy implications could be proposed through scenario simulations. This paper first introduces the theory of coal supply chain, carbon emissions and system dynamics;then we divide carbon emissions in electric-coal supply chain into four subsystems and analyze the source of carbon emissions in each subsystem;after this, using the method of system dynamics, this paper analyzes the causality relationships between critical variables which affect carbon emissions and establishes a system dynamics model of carbon emissions in electric-coal supply chain;with a case study of HZ electric-coal supply chain, adopting simulation method of system dynamics,we select critical variables to simulate carbon emissions in electric-coal supply chain from two aspects: investment in technology and operation management;combined with simulation results, policy implications are proposed to realize carbon emission reduction;finally,we summarize the full study and put forward the direction of future research. Results of this study show that there is still room for HZ electric-coal supply chain to reduce carbon emissions.Policy implications from the two aspects could decrease carbon emissions in electric-coal supply chain. At the same time, this study also shows that the simulation method based on system dynamics is suitable for the problem of carbon emissions in electric-coal supply chain, and it is also a direction of the further research on carbon emissions in electric-coal supply chain.
