Wire Electrical Discharge Machining(WEDM)is one kind of special processing method which utilizes the phenomenon of electric corrosion caused by pulse discharge between two stages.Since the high processing quality and wide material adaptability,it has been widely used in the high precision manufacturing industry.How to improve the processing quality and efficiency further,how to balance the relationship between quality and efficiency to achieve its optimal have been the hot and difficult research in WEDM.In view of the above two problems,this paper did the study in three aspects of WEDM from the follow perspectives: process improvement and optimization.The three aspects are cutting electrode characteristics,field assisted machining and optimization of multi-process parameters.In the aspect of WEDM electrode characteristics,this paper proposes a new method of using electrode wire and workpiece heat treatment to solve the problem that the quality and efficiency of WEDM are difficult to be further improved.For the tool electrode,this paper selected galvanized copper wire as a representative,compared it with brass wire on cutting characteristics,compared with brass wire,the use of galvanized copper wire can effectively improve the quality and efficiency of wire cutting.For the cutting workpiece,this paper focuses on the effect of heat treatment on its cutting performance.The experimental results show that the reasonable choice of heat treatment method of workpiece material can effectively improve its processing quality and efficiency.In the aspect of field-assisted WEDM cutting technology,a method of introducing ultrasonic vibration and magnetic field assisted into wire cutting is proposed in this paper.Three kinds of field-assisted methods are proposed,which are ultrasonic vibration assisted WEDM,magnetic field assisted WEDM and combine ultrasonic vibration and magnetic field.The results shows that compared with the traditional wire cutting process,the introduction of field-assisted method can effectively improve the quality and efficiency of WEDM processing.In the aspect of WEDM cutting parameter optimization,a hybrid optimization method based on support vector machine(SVM)combined with particle swarm optimization(PSO).On the basis of the above process improvement to optimize the processing quality and efficiency,so that to achieve the both best at the same time.Through the comparison with the original processing results and experimental verification,the validity and accuracy of the proposed algorithm are proved,it is showing that the proposed hybrid optimization algorithm can balance the relationship between processing quality and processing efficiency,and obtain the optimal combination of parameters.Through the above three aspects of the work,this paper effectively solve the two problems in wire cutting processing,and further enhance the WEDM processing performance,the results can be used to guide the actual production and processing.
