Oil ethoxylates were synthesized through one step reaction of oil and epoxyethane by inserting ethoxylation catalysts to let oxyethyl group be inserted between carbonyl and alkoxy.In this paper,the properties and application of coconut oil ethoxylate,palm kernel oil ethoxylate,and soybean oil ethoxylate were studied.The effect of hydrophobic group carbon chain length and EO addition number on the properties of oil ethoxylates was studied.With the increase of EO number,critical micelle concentration of COE increase,and the order of magnitude is about 10-55 mol·L-1.The micellization process is entropy driven process,COE with small EO numbers are easier to form micelles.Because of its large steric hindrance,the dynamic surface activity is poor.The diffusion rate of initial absorption slows down and it is hard to absorb at surface in later stage absorption with the increase of EO number.The cloud point and lime soap dispersing power?LSDP?increase with the increase of EO number,and the order of oil ethoxylates with the same EO number for cloud point is COE>PKOE>SOE,while for LSDP,the order is SOE>COE>PKOE.The emulsification of oil ethoxylates is excellent because of its structure of triglyceride,with the order of SOE>PKOE>COE?with the same EO number?.The foaming capacity enhances with the increase of EO number,and the foam stability of oil ethoxylates is poor,to let them belong to low foam surfactants.Oil ethoxylates show poor detergency for JB-01 and JB-02 because of its poor wettability,while the detergency for JB-03 is excellent which increase with the increase of EO number,and SOE show the best detergency.COE-36 performs well for the three standard soiled cloth.Synergism between oil ethoxylates and anionic surfactants was studied.The three blending systems including COE-30/LAS,COE-30/AES and COE-30/AEC-5 exhibit synergistic effect in surface tension reduction efficiency and capacity for formation of mixed micelle,COE-30/AES-2 and COE-30/AEC-5 systems provide synergistic effect in surface tension reduction capacity as well.The blending systems show better foam property than oil ethoxylates.LAS/COE-36 shows the strongest detergency in LAS/COE systems,in which LAS is mainly responsible for detergency,while COE-36 plays as dispersant.Detergency of oil ethoxylates blending with AES,AOS,AEO-9 and builders was studied.The detergency performance and mass fraction of COE-36 in optimal detergency area of the three component systems is COE-36/AES/AEO-9>COE-36/AES/AOS>COE-36/AOS/AEO-9,so COE-36/AES/AEO-9 system can maximize the sue level of COE-36.Sodium polyacrylate is better than sodium citrate for enhancing the detergency of COE-36.
