Separation of oil and water is an important part of petroleum technology.Also Multiphase separation equipment is one of the indispensable equipments in petroleum exploitation.Since most of the oil fields in our country have entered into the middle and late stage of exploitation,it has practical significance for the development of the multiphase separation equipment.In this paper,the separation of oil,gas and water is studied,and the three-phase separator is designed by the combination of vertical separation cylinder and internal cyclone.First,analyses and comparisons of different simulations are carried on by using the Fluent software in order to get the key sizes and the entrance structure of the internal cyclone.In the end,the outside diameter of vortex tube is 150 mm.The length of the center tube is 600 mm.The entrance structure is cut without vane.Secondly,according to the coalescence principle and population balance model,the paper calculates the effective droplet diameter of the dispersed phase when the multiphase passing by the internal cyclone.Then the diameter of outer seperation cylinder is decreased from 2.24 m to 1m,greatly reducing the volume of the separator and shortening the separation time.At last,the separation efficiencies of this new separator can reach the primary separator standards under different working conditions.
