I made a study on analysis of viscous fingering in heterogeneous porous media with a view acquiring more knowledge on behavior of viscous fingering so that we may be able to minimize it.Viscous fingering or instability occurs whenever one fluid is being pushed by other fluid which has less viscosity compare to the fluid being pushed. In Mathematical analysis is I considered heterogeneous anisotropic porous media, through it we were able to determine on which condition in terms of viscosity ratio the flow was more likely to be either in stable or unstable condition. This was proved by plotting some graphs on different value of R against wave number. And from there we were able to make more investigation and analysis why and how the system was becoming more stable as the values of viscosity ratio R was increased. The simulation using COMSOL 5.2 was also done to verify the result obtained in mathematical analysis as well as simulating some addition concepts which was difficult to demonstrate more clearly mathematically.I simulated the fluid flow during injection on different reservoir condition such as permeability, viscosity ratio and porosity after which I was able to make analysis on different shape of viscous fingering which was obtained.
