Hard and brittle material has been widely used in more and more fields because of its excellent physical property.But high brittleness and high hardness of hard and brittle materials make it difficult for the precision machining and prone to poor quality and crack.The machining mechanism is more complex especially in micro machining because of the influence of size effect to machining process.So it is necessary to study the removal mechanism of hard and brittle materials deeply.In this paper,the milling process of quartz glass with ball end milling cutter was used to study the change rule of milling temperature.The temperature model of micro milling of quartz glass was established based on the characteristics of micro milling,the characteristics of quartz glass materials,and then established the prediction model of the heat distribution ratio and determined the surface heat flux and heat flow distribution of the milling.The milling temperature was simulated with finite element analysis based on ANSYS.The APDL language is used to compile the numerical solution of the moving heat source and receive the temperature distribution on the surface of milling.We also obtained the distribution of milling temperature field by analyzing the simulation results.This paper also established the milling temperature measurement module on the self-developed micro milling processing platform and tested the temperature data of milling center.It was verified the accuracy of the milling temperature model by comparing simulation data with the calculated values.It was analyzed that the the spindle speed was the biggest influence in the milling temperature.Finally,it was comprehensively studied the influence of processing parameters to milling temperature,and referred to future micro milling process parameter setting.
