Tap occupies an very important position in metal cutting process,which was mainly used for processing all kinds of the internal thread by variable size.While tapping was in the condition of Semi-enclosed cutting,Poor heat dissipation and High cutting temperature,so that cutting blade was wear easily,machining efficiency and stability of cutting process was affected seriously.So researching the wear mechanism and then predicting the tool life for production practice has the important theoretical guidance value,so as to the application.The paper has established the spiral tap durability model and studied the simulation of the cutting process.Also analyzes the cutting parameters and tool structure parameters on the influence of tool durability.Experimental research was employed to study the wear.The concrete research content are as follows:Firstly analyzed the geometry and cutting principle of tap,get four main parameters on the influence of tool wear,namely Rake Angle,Helical Angle,Spiral Angle,Lead Angle and Rotational Speed.Then studied the wear procession,wear form,wear mechanism and standard of abrasion of the tap.The result shows that the main wear form was the blade wear,the main wear mechanism was abrasive wear and adhesion wear.Secondly studied the friction characteristics between tap and work-piece,and established the spiral tap durability model under the low speed based on abrasive wear and adhesion wear.Thirdly build the finite element simulation model,which can simulate the cutting process dynamically and monitor the cutting force,cutting temperature and tap wear timely.Finally demonstrated the wear variation of the tap by rotational speed through the experimental method.The simulation results shows that the tap speed had the greatest influence on tap durability,with the increase of rotational speed,a significant reduction on tap durability.With the increase of rake Angle can effectively reduce the temperature near the edge,enhance the tap durability.Spiral Angle has rarely influence on tap durability,but larger spiral Angle can help the chip removed.while enlarge the lead Angle,the tap durability increased.At last compared the simulation results and analytical model analysis,further verify the validity and rationality of the finite element simulation.
