Schiff base ligands can coordinate well to transition metal ions, which can form transition metal complexes with versatile structures. The complexes have in general excellent biological activities, such as antibacterial,anti-virious,anti-tumor,and insulin-like activity. In addition, the complexes have widely application in the treatment of diseases, agriculture, and livestock,et c.Considering the readily preparation of metal complexes,as well as the high yields, researchers have paid more and more attention on the study and application of them.Urease can rapidly decompose urea to form ammonia. This process has some side effects. For instance,as for agriculture, the volatilization of ammonia can decrease the absorption rate of urea, and influence the growth of crops;as for livestock, ammonia are toxic which usually lead to the death of animals.Urease inhibitors can inhibit urease activity, thereby eliminating the side effects.Urease inhibitor has already been a hot topic to many researchers. It was improved that transition metal complexes with Schiff bases have effective urease inhibitory activities. However, the study on this field is still less. Thus,it is necessary to explore more effective urease inhibitiors with Schiff base complexes. This paper includes three sections:1.Nine iron, copper, cobalt transition metal complexes with four kinds of hydrazone ligands were prepared, which include one mononuclear iron complex, one mononuclear cobalt complex, five mononuclear copper complexes, and two dinuclear copper complexes. All of the complexes have been characterized by infrared and electronic spectra, thermal analysis, and single crystal X-ray diffraction.2.Nine copper, cobalt transition metal complexes with four kinds of hydrazone ligands were prepared, three mononuclear cobalt complex, two mononuclear cobalt complex, three dinuclear copper complexes. All of the complexes have been characterized by infrared and electronic spectra, thermal analysis, and single crystal X-ray diffraction.3.The urease inhibitory activities of the complexes have been studied.
