Rotary kiln is a large key machine for production in cement,metallurgy,chemical,and environmental protection industries,its running condition is related to many problems,such as the significant benefit of the enterprises,personnel safety and production quality,etc.The cylinder is the main component of rotary kiln,the axis of cylinder,namely the axis of rotary kiln,can rotate on one line or not is as the core factor of the properly working of rotary kiln.Thus,it's very important to do detection on the deformation of the kiln cylinder surface.The cylinder axial bending and the surface deformation are two parameters that reflect the cylinder deformation,and they can be the significant evaluation parameters of the running condition of rotary kiln.In particular,measurement of bending of a rotary kiln can affect the service life of the lining bricks inside the rotary kiln,stress and abrasion on supporting rollers and tires and abrasion on driving gears;measurement of surface deformation of the kiln shell can directly reflect the accordance between inside lining bricks and can directly influence the accuracy of axis measurement.It's necessary to chose appropriate methods to extract these two parameters from the measurement data.The measuring method as well as the measurement hardware and software platform,and the data processing methods widely used currently were introduced firstly in this article;the defects of the existing method of data processing methods have been discussed;and a new method used to extract the deformation parameters of kiln cylinder was proposed,from the point of view of signal processing.The new method put the empirical mode decomposition(EMD)algorithm to use,which was the first part of the emerging signal processing method—Hilbert-Huang Transform.First,the theory of EMD algorithm as well as its improved algorithms was introduced in the article,the validity of the algorithms were verified by simulation signal.The software platform of the measurement system was LabVIEW,and the software platform of EMD algorithm was MATLAB,the methods of mixed programming use these two kinds of software as well as the comparison of each method was introduced,the suitable mixed programming method was chosen for the applying of EMD algorithm to the measurement software.Finally,EMD algorithm was applied,the appropriate decomposition parameters were configured,and the characteristic decomposition components were extracted.Furthermore,the mixed programming method with DLL technology was used,the feature parameters extraction of kiln cylinder deformation and reconstruction of cylinder sections were realized.By compare with the processing result of the method of Least Square Circle(LSC),it candidate that the EMD method can effectively extract the deformation parameters of kiln cylinder surface,and the rebuild cylinder sections acquired using this method can show the deformation trend of cylinder surface more intuitive.In addition,compared with the traditional data processing method,EMD method is better in eliminating the influence of noise and vibration in measuring spot as well as the vibration caused by instrument.
