The antistatic engineering plastics usually adopt the method of adding carbon black,but much carbon black will affect the mechanical properties of plastic.But if the amount of carbon is not enough,it will recede the effect of antistatic.In this paper,carbon nanotubes are used to instead of carbon black to achieve antistatic effect.The addition content of carbon nanotubes is relatively lower,and the cost is within acceptable range.Therefore,the mechanical properties of the modified plastic will not been receded or even slightly enhanced.Surface grating CNT was respectively added into three kinds of engineering plastics,polycarbonate(PC),polyethylene terephthalate(PET)and polyformaldehyde(POM),and the mechanical properties and electrical performance of the modified plastics were discussed.The main property of the modified plastics contains tensile strength,bending strength,impact toughness,melt index and surface resistance,etc.It is found that CNT can improve the antistatic performance,and mechanics performance of engineering plastics won't be harmed.It also will make them increasesometimesbecause of the lower adding content of CNT.Moreover CNT withonly 1% ~ 3% content improve antistatic property of engineering plastic resistancewithin the controllable cost of engineering plastics.It is concluded that it is feasible and effective to use CNT to improve the antistatic performance of engineering plastics.
