Research On The Application Of British Historical Architecture Decoration Art To Modern Formal Dress Design

According to the people's social life,formal dress has become a necessity of modern people.The higher require-ments of the design and innovation of the formal dress have been required because of the people's increasing demands of the formal dress as well as the improvement of the aesthetic level.Thus,people looking forward to the more personalized and innovative formal dress.While talking about the creativity of art design which could come from all different areas.The inspiring and learning from other different art species always bring the design new inspiration and design method.Through all the collaboration of different arts design that the most frequently and successful example is the decoration design of architecture and formal dress design in fashion design.Among all the different designs of architecture decoration,the British architecture decoration is variety and full of history.Many British architectures are well preserved through the test of time which could provide abundant design inspiration and materials for the fashion design.A lot of historical architecture in different period has been visited by the author of this paper when she was studying in the UK.Those fantastic decorations have deeply attracted the author and inspired her to think about how to bring new design method and methodology to the formal dress design through drawing lesson from British architecture decoration.Thus,the systematic research of how to apply the elements of the British historical architecture decoration styles in modern formal dress design have been done by the field research,case study,secondary research as well as design practice.First of all,taking the British Gothic and Tudor architecture decorations as the examples,the style and characteristics were analysed by field research.After that the design elements and language are sumarised by combining the essential features and design requirements of the modern formal dress design.Furthermore,the method of using British architecture decoration for formal dress design is analogical transferred by analysing the typical formal dress designs which are inspired and learned from the architecture designed by the famous fashion master.Finally,the two collections including three pieces each female formal dress was designed by applying the elements extracted from the British Gothic and Tudor architecture decorations.
