Electrolytic manganese residue is produced in the electrolytic process of the preparation of manganese metal,which is called EMR for short.With the development of electrolytic manganese enterprises,The treatment of EMR has become a problem that hinders the development of electrolytic manganese enterprises.This paper mainly studies the treatment of EMR and its application in polypropylene(PP),high density polyethylene(HDPE)and polyvinyl chloride(PVC)matrix composites.EMR was washed with distilled water and dried to constant weight at 170?.The boundary particle size(D90)was reduced to 10 um by ball milling.A series of surface-modified EMR were obtained by blending with stearic acid(SA),titanate,silane coupling agent KH-550 and KH-560,respectively.The surface modified EMR was melt blended with PP,HDPE and PVC,twin screw extrusion and injection moulding respectively,and the effects of modifier types,modifier additions and EMR additions on the mechanical properties of PP(or HDPE or PVC)/EMR composites were investigated.The mechanical properties of PP(or HDPE or PVC)/EMR composites were investigated under the action of thermo-oxidative aging at 120?.Compared with PP,the flexural strength and flexural modulus of PP/EMR composites were increased,and the mechanical properties of PP/EMR composites were decreased after thermo-oxidative aging at 120?.The type of modifier,the amount of modifier and the amount of electrolytic manganese slag added in PP were controlled.The results of mechanical properties showed that 40 copies of EMR were modified by 0.3 copies of silane coupling agent KH-550.The maximum impact strength of PP/EMR composite was 19.5 kJ m-2,and the retention rate of impact strength was 120 hours after thermal oxygen aging at 120?.It is 85%.Compared with HDPE,the flexural strength and flexural modulus of HDPE/EMR composites were increased,and the mechanical properties of HDPE/EMR composites were decreased after thermo-oxidative aging at 120 oC,The type of modifier,the amount of modifier and the amount of electrolytic manganese slag added in HDPE were controlled.The mechanical properties showed that the notched impact strength of HDPE/EMR composites prepared by 3.75 phr stearic acid modified 30 phr EMR was 16.7 kJ m-2,and the retention rate of impact strength was 120 hours after thermal oxygen aging at 120 oC.It is 122,2%,Compared with PVC,the flexural strength and flexural modulus of PVC/EMR composites were increased,and the mechanical properties of PVC/EMR composites were decreased after thermal-oxidative aging at 120?.The type of modifier,the amount of modifier and the amount of electrolytic manganese slag added in PVC were controlled.The results of mechanical properties showed that the maximum impact strength of PVC/EMR composites prepared by 1.0 phr stearic acid modified 30 phr EMR was 12.7 kJm-2.The impact strength remained 88.3%after 120 hours of thermo-oxidative aging at 120?.The treatment method of electrolytic manganese slag as filler was preliminarily explored.The addition of KH-550 and SA modified electrolytic manganese slag into PP,HDPE and PVC matrix could significantly improve the flexural strength and modulus of the composites,while minimizing the damage to the toughness of the composites.
