Common buckwheat, naked oat and millet are the predominant and featured grains of Inner Mongolia, however their nutrients, especially the peculiarities of of minerals profile lack systematic determination and evaluation.A total of 60 common buckwheat,30 naked oat and 44 millet samples were collected from six grain producing banners or counties in Inner Mongolia during two year in harvest seasons, and 27 minerals were detennined and analyzed.Descriptive statistics and Chemometrics Principal Component Analysis(PCA)module were applied to analyze species and geographical original peculiarities of minerals profile and correlating clustering ability of the two classification. Results of PCA indicated that Common buckwheat, naked oat and millet samples obviously clustered together by their species, implies the minerals profile of the three grains is largely different. The three grains of Inner Mongolia are abundant in minerals, especially Mg of common buckwheat and naked oat were significantly higher than that of millet, and Mg of common buckwheat was significantly higher than naked oat.Mg content of common buckwheat and naked oat were 174.83 mg/100g and 110.18 mg/100g(x±SD)respectively.Geographical origin clustering of common buckwheat, naked oat and millet from six banners or counties of Inner Mongolia was also obvious, implies it is feasible to trace geographical origin of crops by their minerals profile.Separation between eastern and western common buckwheat cluster was obvious, and separation among four county or banner that common buckwheat samples originated was obvious too.Li,Cr and Pb of common buckwheat from the most eastern Hure Banner were significantly higher than the most western Gu Yang County, while Se,Ti,Sn,Cd,Cs and Cu were on the contrary. The farther east, the lower Se level.Se of common buckwheat of Gu Yang County was 2.3 time that of Hure Banner.PCA on 22 trace elements profile showed that millet from six counties had obvious original clustering peculiarity.Cs in Tu Quan County and Hure Banner,Pb in Aohan Banner, and Cr in Gu Yang County and Urad Front Banner were higher, while most micro elements of millet from Liang Cheng County were higher. In PCA naked oat from Wu Chuan County and Liang Cheng County separated obviously,Cr and Pb in oat of Liang Cheng County were higher than that of Wu Chuan, and Ni was on the contrary.CV%of moisture among each grain samples was very small to influence the results of the descriptive analysis and PCA analysis, after correction on minerals data to mean water content of each grain,no differences among species and geographical clustering properties changed.Common buckwheat, naked oat and millet from Inner Mongolia are very rich in minerals, most essential macro and micro elements were significantly higher than corresponding data provided in China Food Composition Table 2004,especially Mg of common buckwheat and naked oats were significantly higher than other crops. The daily intake of 200g common buckwheat or 300g naked oat can meet the RNI of Mg.Both common buckwheat and naked oat are the best natural Mg resources.
