Composite materials are usually composed of a matrix and a reinforcing material,which advantages lie in its high strength and high designability,so they are widely used in the aerospace field.However,its impact resistance is poor,and it is easy to be damaged under the impact.The impact damage will greatly reduce the bearing capacity of the composite material and cause serious safety hazards.Therefore,it is of great significance to study the impact damage problem of composite materials and its influencing factors,and to predict the damage evolution process of composites under low energy impact.The numerical simulation method is applied in studying the impact damage of composite materials.Firstly,based on ABAQUS finite element software,I established the impact model of composite laminated plates,and then compared it with the literature experimental results,not only showing that the simulated values in this paper are consistent with the experimental values in the literature,but aslo verifying the rationality of the analyzing method used in this paper.In this model,I studied the damage patterns of laminates under low energy impact – applying the improved Hashin failure criterion as the damage criterion the damage in the laminated layer and introducing the Cohesive force model to interlayer damage to simulate the delamination damage caused by the impacts.The results show that delamination damage and matrix tensile failure are the main damage forms of composite laminate structures under low energy impact,firstly the matrix tensile failure appears,followed by the matrix compression failure,and then fiber compression failure and fiber tensile failure,while delamination damage appears in the final stage.The effects of three ply factors on the low-energy impact damage characteristics of composite laminates were studied by composite wing skin laminate structure.Finally,four factors that may affect the delamination damage area are studied,including impact mass,impact velocity,impact energy and composite properties.The results show that the low-energy impact damage of composite laminates is not directly related to the impact mass and impact velocity;the area of impact damage will increase with the increase of impact energy.
