In this paper,polyolefinic elastomer and low density polyethylene(LDPE)/high-density polyethylene(HDPE)with different content were separately grafted by glycidyl methacrylate(GMA)with melt blending to prepare functionalized elastomer firstly.The functionalized elastomer was blended with PBT.The properties and morphology of PBT blends were investigated.And the effect of the content of polyolefin in the elastomer on toughening PBT was investigated.On this basis,the elastic modulus of the elastomer was investigated on toughening PBT.The results as follows:(1)The results indicated that the introduction of LDPE into elastomer showed little influence on tensile yield strength of PBT blends.When the content of LDPE in elastomer was less than 12%,PBT was toughened by functionalized elastomer.And the content of LDPE in elastomer showed little effect on Izod impact strenght of PBT blends.The Izod impact strenght of PBT blends decreased dramatically when the content of LDPE in elastomer was over 12%.The dispersion of elastomer in PBT matrix could be deteriorated.And PBT blends showed brittle fracture behavior in impact test when the content of LDPE in elastomer was over 18%,which meaned elastomer could not toughen PBT.The elasticity modulus of elastomer was adjusted when the content of the introduction of LDPE increased,and the elasticity modulus of the elastomer linearly added with the increase of the content of LDPE.(2)The results indicated that the introduction of HDPE into elastomer showed little influence on tensile property of PBT blends.When the content of HDPE in elastomer was less than 8%,PBT was toughened by functionalized elastomer.And the content of HDPE in elastomer showed little effect on Izod impact strenght of PBT blends.The Izod impact strenght of PBT blends decreased gradually when the content of HDPE in elastomer was over 8%.The uniformity of the dispersion of elastomer in PBT matrix got worse.And PBT blends showed brittle fracture behavior in impact test when the content of LDPE in elastomer was over 15%,which meaned elastomer could not toughen PBT.The increase of the elasticity modulus of elastomer and the worse compatibility were caused by the introduction of HDPE into elastomer.
