Blood symbolizes life.Excessive loss of blood is one of the main causes of death in major surgery, traffic accidents, wars or natural disasters. Therefore,it is necessary to prepare efficient hemostatic materials with good biocompatibility. This study investigates the advantages and disadvantages of exiting hemostatic materials and designs innovative hemostatic material with biocompatibility and hemostatic effect.Based on natural polysaccharide to prepare hemostatic materials for tissue wound bleeding or cancellous bone bleeding in order to provide effective therapies for different bleeding patterns. In Part 1,polysaccharide-based hemostatic porous sponges(SHDQ)were prepared by the self-foaming process of HA and partially-quaternized Dex-PDM in the presence of sodium trimetaphosphate crosslinkers to cure tissue wound bleeding.SHDQ sponges proved to possess high porosity and liquid absorption ability, superior blood compatibility,whole-blood clotting and hemostatic activity in hepatorrhagia models. The present study demonstrated that the self-foaming process of HA/Dex-PDM under a "green" condition was an effective means to produce new hemostatic materials. In Part 2,tannic acid(T-)and quaternized starch(Q+)layer-by-layer decorated microporous starch(M)via electrostatic interaction was used to produce the assemblies(MQ2T2)to control cancellous bone bleeding.MQ2T2 assemblies showed the quasi-solid mechanical response in terms of rheology.Meanwhile,MQ2T2 could release tannic acid slowly by disassembly. The released tannic acid promote the capacity of coagulation. Moreover, the excellent hemostatic performance, superior bio-safety and bone recovery capacity of MQ2T2 in vivo were demonstrated in the rat cancellous bone bleeding model. These results revealed that MQ2T2 may be promising therapy for cancellous bone bleeding as a substitute of bone wax.
