With the continuous development of the social economy,the demand for material resources also increases,and the economic growth and the natural environment supporting this growth are gradually out of harmony,which will seriously hinder the sustainable development of the regional environment.Based on the theory of sustainable development and the theory of material metabolism,this paper combs the relevant literature and materials to comparatively study the methods of sustainable development,and finds that the material flow is the carrier of material metabolism.Material flow analysis considers the environmental costs of economic development,and also focuses on hidden flows that do not directly enter the socio-economic system but pose a threat to the natural environment.It can truly and comprehensively show the scale of material exchanges and exchange of materials between the socio-economic system and the natural environment system.The composition and changes can be a good measure of regional environmental pressure and sustainability.Therefore,this article adopts the material flow analysis method,and based on the authoritative research results of the material flow "European Union Guidelines" published by the Eurostat,the classification and classification of substances that passed through the boundary of the socio-economic system and natural environment system in Chongqing from 2000 to 2017 and Accounting.According to the material flow accounting results,combined with the social and economic development indicators such as population and GDP,an evaluation index system with a total of 17 indicators in six aspects of input,output,consumption,balance,efficiency and intensity,and comprehensive index was established.Conduct analysis and evaluation of its environmental sustainability.Subsequently,based on the STIRPAT model,a regression model of Chongqing's direct material input as the explanatory variable was established.From the population size,population structure,wealth,industrialization,technology,industrial structure,foreign trade,and capital formation rate,8 In terms of aspects,the main factors affecting the environmental sustainability of Chongqing and their impacts are analyzed.The results show that from 2000 to 2017,Chongqing:(1)The input and consumption of material resources increased year by year from 2000 to 2015,and began to decrease after 2015,with construction non-metallic mines and fossil energy dominating.Pollutant emissions fluctuated and decreased during the study period,of which industrial solid waste and industrial sulfur dioxide dropped significantly.(2)Both material productivity and environmental efficiency have improved,indicating that unit material resource input and unit pollutant discharge can create more economic value,reflecting the improvement of Chongqing's technological level and resource utilization efficiency.(3)Characterize the environmental sustainable development with direct material input.The analysis shows that Chongqing's environmental sustainable development capability has gradually increased since 2015.Population size,industrial structure,and urbanization rate are the main factors that affect the sustainable development of Chongqing 's environment.The degree of affluence and dependence on foreign trade have a positive impact on direct material input,and the level of technology has a negative impact on it.Finally,in order to improve the sustainable development of the environment in Chongqing,the article puts forward vigorous development of the tertiary industry and promotes large-scale circulation of commerce;improves the level of technological innovation,deepens the development of circular economy and vein industry;improves the quality of the population and advocates green consumption.
