Economic growth and air pollution are closely related. The problem of air pollution stems from the rapid development of the economy since the reform and opening up,but conversely, air pollution will also cause economic losses to a certain extent.Air pollution can have an impact on economic growth through aspects such as population health, labor mobility, agriculture and animal husbandry, and policy governance. This paper first quantitatively evaluates the development status of air pollution and economic growth in 285 cities above prefecture level from 2003 to 2017,and then uses panel data of 285 cities from 2003 to 2017 for 15 years of economic and social indicators and PM2.5 concentration. The air pollution variable PM2.5 concentration was incorporated into the spatial econometric model of economic development. The optimal model selection and the decomposition of direct and indirect effects were conducted. The four major economic regions and the time period around 2013 were analyzed for air pollution and population density. The direct effect and indirect spillover effect of variables such as industrial structure on economic growth. The results of the study show that:(1)For 15 years,China's PM2.5 concentration has been above the safety value published by the World Health Organization. The air pollution problem is very serious. And the degree of air pollution show a clear inverted "U" trend.(2)Nationwide,air pollution has a significant positive effect on the economic growth of the region, but pollution spillover may have a significant negative effect on the economic growth of other regions.(3)Air pollution and other independent variables have different effects on economic growth in the east, middle, west, and northeast regions. In the eastern and central regions, air pollution has a significant negative impact on economic development, and has a significant role in promoting economic growth in neighboring regions;in the western region, air pollution only has a significant negative impact on local economic growth, while the spillover effect does not Significantly;and because of the addition of other control variables, air pollution in Northeast China has no obvious impact on economic growth.Combining with the actual situation in my country, try to put forward corresponding policy suggestions: regional joint prevention and joint control to control air pollution;air pollution control policy regional differentiation, etc. This article actively measures the impact of air pollution on economic growth, provides a theoretical basis for promoting the balance between air pollution and economic development in my country, and looks forward to providing suggestions for improving air quality while maintaining economic development.
