The severity of natural disasters has made people in countries all over the world come under the impact of such dangers,which have caused the deaths of thousands and instigated damages to many individuals.The media plays an important role during disaster management in disseminating information to reduce the impact of the disaster which leads to assisting in the recovery efforts.This study focused on examining CGTN Africa and BBC Africa‘s portrayal of Cyclone Idai(2019)and Ebola Outbreak(2014-2016);using news frames,and preparation,prevention,response and recovery phases of crisis coverage.A qualitative content analysis was employed,which resulted in the identification of the dominant frames used by the media in disaster coverage.As well as,how CGTN Africa and BBC portrayed the selected catastrophes during the PPRR phase of crisis coverage.The research revealed that responsibility and the human interest themes were the dominant frames employed in the selected media coverage of Cyclone Idai and the Ebola outbreak.Whiles CGTN Africa and BBC further portrayed these natural disasters highly through the recovery and response phases of the PPRR cycle.
