With the concept of sustainable development accepted well, more and more people are concerned more about the environmental performance of products, and gradually try to know the environmental risks of production and using process of a product. As a China's basic national economic industry, the steel industry has not only consumed a large sum of resources and energy, but also caused serious environmental problems such as greenhouse effect, ecological damage and so on.Therefore, analyzing and evaluating the environment effect of the iron and steel industry, are of great significance to the sustainable development of China's iron and steel industry is.In this paper, the steel products-billet is the research object, and the life cycle assessment(LCA)method used by the International Iron and Steel Association is adopted, and the system boundary is from the "cradle" to the "gate",and life cycle Model of long-term process of steel products under the China's development conditions is built.with 1 ton of billet as a functional unit, the unit process includes energy(coal, electricity)upstream stage, raw material upstream stage(iron ore),coking,sintering,iron-making in blast furnace, steelmaking in converter, and the life cycle inventory(LCI)can be compiled through LCI of the upstream product and input-output tables from enterprise, and the IMPACT 2002 + life cycle impact assessment method is used to quantify the environmental effects of the product. Finally,,the paper explores the ways to reduce environmental impact in the product life cycle by analyzing the data quality and sensitivity. The results of LCIA indicates that the impact of steel production and upstream processes on the environment. The characterization value of the global warming, the respiratory and non-renewable energy consumption indicators are the largest in the iron-making stage, and the toxic effects are mainly caused by coking emissions.Electricity and coal are the main components of energy consumption, and they are the main source of carbon emissions,in addition, photochemical oxidation and human toxicity value caused by organic emissions is large, and heavy metal emissions is the second in human toxic effects, while sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides are the main cause of acidification. Finally, the impact degree of electricity and gas recovery rate can be understood according to the sensitivity analysis.
