At present,the semi-open spray booths used abroad are relatively mature in technology.Even open painting booths are used for ultra-large parts painting.However,a few semi-open spray booths are used in China and lack of relevant experience and relevant technical standards and specifications.In order to introduce and promote semi-open spray booths at home,its safety use should be considered.Therefore,comprehensive understanding of the semi-open spray booth is necessary,especially in its non-closed space,which is prone to fire and explosion accidents when the gas leaks during use.A typical semi-open spray booth abroad is taken as an research example in the paper.Firstly,the requirements and modes of ventilation are analyzed in depth,including the design principle of airflow organization,the calculation of volume and pressure,and the selection of ventilation facilities.The best way to analyze the ventilation system is numerical computation simulation.Secondly,based on the design,the ANSYS FLUENT software is used to numerically simulate the four exhaust modes of the semi-open spray booth.The airflows of four different exhaust modes and velocity fields in the semi-open paint booth are compared.The safest ventilation mode is selected through simulation.The semi-open spray booth is further compared with the closed spray booth to explore its advantages and disadvantages.The simulation results show that the semi-open spray booth can be used safely.The air inlet is at the front of the booth,and the air is let out the rear.It also can effectively control the leakage of pollutants generated by organic solvents to the outside and meet the safety requirements of painting operations.Properly increasing the wind speed within a reasonable wind speed range results in better spray quality.In addition,it is found by comparison with a closed spray booth in which the ventilation mode is a cross flow direction.Advantages of air flow in a semi-open spray booth is that it is evenly oriented and has no dead angles to be discharged to the exhaust vents.It can protect the occupational health and safety of paint worker's health.Finally,studies on division of the dangerous explosion zone of the semi-open spray booth and the selection of its alarm and fire extinguishing system have important reference value for the safe use of the semi-open spray booth.
