Friction is a common phenomenon in nature and human society.Friction occurs when two objects are in close contact and move relative to each other.Friction has both advantages and disadvantages for human production and life.As early as prehistoric times, primitive human beings used friction to generate heat to drill wood for fire.In modern times, people even use lubricating oil to reduce friction and wear during machine operation and improve energy utilization rate and machine service life.Friction is often accompanied by material wear and energy dissipation, and triboluminescence is an important energy dissipation method in the friction process.Triboluminescence is a process in which two objects emit light when rubbing against each other. This phenomenon has received extensive attention in recent years. Some scholars have applied it in many fields such as light source manufacturing, handwriting identification and electronic components manufacturing.Because the process of triboluminescence is very complex, its mechanism has not yet been clearly explained.Exploring the influencing factors and mechanism of triboluminescence is the key to reasonably inhibit or utilize this energy dissipation. In this paper, the triboluminescence mechanism of zinc sulfide, copper sulfide and zinc sulfide copper sulfide composite materials is preliminarily explored by using the self-built triboluminescence measurement system. The designed friction luminescence measurement system includes friction luminescence generator and friction luminescence detection software. The friction luminescence generating device mainly adopts two circular test pieces with the same size to contact up and down as friction materials for rotating friction, the upper test piece is fixed on an electric stirrer through a clamp for rotating motion, the lower test piece can be stuck and fixed in a beaker through a soft glue clamp, the friction of the upper and lower test pieces can be carried out in an atmospheric environment or an aqueous solution environment, the beaker is placed on an electric lifting platform, the friction of the two test pieces is loaded by the electric lifting platform, and a weighing force sensor on the electric lifting platform can measure the contact load.Triboluminescence detection software is compiled based on Lab VIEW and used to control single photon counting system and ANDOR spectrometer(Shamrock SR-303i)to collect and analyze light intensity and spectral information of light generated in triboluminescence experiment. The triboluminescence phenomena caused by gas discharge and intrinsic and defective luminescence of friction materials were studied by using the developed triboluminescence detection system and loading the contact load below 1N.The effects of rotational speed on the light intensity and spectrum of the two triboluminescence phenomena were observed during the rotating friction process. It was found that the light intensity of the two friction luminescence phenomena increased with the increase of rotational speed, and the friction luminescence spectrum did not change at different rotational speeds.By analyzing the spectra of two kinds of triboluminescence phenomena, the causes of triboluminescence of the selected materials are verified and clarified, and the essence of triboluminescence electron level transition is revealed.
