Since the reform and opening up,China has made great achievements in economic construction,who has the second largest GDP exceeding 13 trillion US dollars at present.However,at the same time of rapid economic development,a series of resource and environmental problems such as desertification,smog and resource depletion have gradually been exposed,guiding us to deepen our understanding of the quality and efficiency of economic development.In May 2014,General Secretary Xi Jinping formally proposed an important judgment of the new normal,and industrial restructuring is an important task of economic work under the new normal background of China,which also is closely related to ecological environment.The status of extensive economic growth model and governments' trends to reduce environmental and safety standards in order to win in performance evaluation make environmental pollution aggravate,and further restrict the optimization of industrial structure.Therefore,It is essential to explore whether the carrying capacity of ecological environment provide sufficient environmental space for sustainable development in economy.However,the carrying capacity of ecological environment is relatively abstractive.How to measure carrying capacity of ecological environment?How does the ecological environment constraint affect industrial restructuring?Therefore,this paper explores the internal mechanism of the impact of ecological environment constraints on industrial structure adjustment from the three aspects including ecological constraint mechanism,ecological load-bearing mechanism and ecological reversal mechanism,and further explores the spatial spillover effect of industrial structure adjustment,which is the innovation of this paper.In addition,based on the connotation of ecological carrying capacity,this paper uses the entropy method to determine the weight of indicators to construct an index system to evaluate the carrying capacity of ecological environment and then the ecological carrying capacity of 30 provinces and 285 cities in China from 2005 to 2015 is estimated.Using ordinary panel regression and spatial Durbin model,the role of ecological carrying capacity on industrial restructuring and its trends are quantitatively analyzed.The empirical results show that when the sample is provincial,the impact of ecological carrying capacity on industrial structure shows an inverted U-shaped relationship with a threshold of 1.416.When considering spatial characteristics,the results not onlyshow the inverted U-shaped relationship of the ordinary panel,but also the adjacent competition effect which means spatial lag factor of the industrial structure optimization is significantly negative.When the sample is the prefecture-level,the impact of ecological carrying capacity on the industrial structure is U-shaped,with a threshold of 1.400,and results also show the positive spatial spillover effect of industrial adjustement.In this regard,countermeasures and suggestions for promoting industrial restructuring and improving environmental carrying capacity can be carried out in the following aspects: exerting the effect of foreign investment “overflow”,improving the level of financial development,attaching importance to increase investment in scientific research,and formulating environmental protection and industrial development in accordance with local conditions.
