As we all know,collectivism has always been the dominant value in Chinese society and it could update itself along with the development of our society.With the return of group consciousness these years,collectivism is now considered as unique Chinese spiritual and cultural core and its key symbols become increasingly popular.Since China is in a new stage of continuous development of industrial science and technology,a large number of domestic brands have successively completed their transformation from "made in China" to "created in China",which gains Chinese citizens more self-confidences so that they concentrate more on the immeasurable power of their national culture.In today's diversified and international clothing market,the cultural connotation that clothing conveys is becoming more and more important.Fashion designers try to seek inspiration in cultural symbols with Chinese characteristics,among which collectivist elements are the most appealing ones and have been most widely used as they are designing their ready-to-wear lines.This paper is mainly divided into six chapters.The first chapter introduces the background and current situation of the topic,basic content,significance of the research and several related concepts are briefly described as well.The second chapter analyzes the development of the cultural symbol of contemporary collectivism and its influence on modern clothing.By analyzing various cases,the third chapter illustrates the expression form of contemporary collectivism cultural symbols utilized in garment design,and then summarizes characteristics that might appeared in the application of those symbolic elements.In the fourth chapter,Chinese brand Li-Ning,which aroused wide discussion for using a large amount of collectivism cultural symbols,is set as an example to explain methods of practical application in many aspects such as silhouette,pattern and color combination.In the fifth chapter,practical application steps of combining collectivism cultural symbols with apparel design are recorded,giving further support to earlier theoretical analysis.The sixth chapter summarizes the previous chapters and draws the conclusion of this paper.This paper studies people's psychology of collectivism culture under the social phenomenon of "rising of Chinese trend" and "cultural confidence",and discusses the application method of collectivism cultural symbol in clothing design aiming at the blank of collectivism culture in the research field of clothing design.It's of great importance to sum upthe features of collectivism cultural symbols so that they could be translated into design language and further more be applied to design practice.This paper aims to provide more design directions for Chinese fashion brands by analyzing the unique significance of the combination of cultural symbols and ready-to-wear design,and to explore a new path for the development and inheritance of collectivism in the future.
