Weft-knitted jacquard fabrics are beautiful and elegant, and have a strong sense of design. They are loved by more and more people and are widely used in various clothing and home textiles. However,in the actual production process, yarn consumption accounts for a large proportion of the cost of jacquard products,in order to account cost, enterprises usually need to test the designed pattern on the machine in order to get the consumption of various colored yarns. This method has a long design cycle and large yarn loss, which affects the business efficiency. The research on prediction for yarn consumption of the weft-knitted jacquard fabrics is of great significance. In order to solve the problem for yarn consumption of the weft-knitted jacquard fabrics, take the weft-knitted single-jersey average jacquard fabrics, the sesame double-jersey jacquard fabrics, the stripe double-jersey jacquard fabrics and net jacquard fabric as an example which knitted on computerized flat knitting machine, use MATLAB editing algorithm to build a prediction model for yarn consumption of the weft-knitted jacquard fabrics, which can predict the consumption of each color yarn in jacquard design stage. The main contents are as follows:Firstly, used the MATLAB image processing technology to convert the jacquard pattern into a two-dimensional jacquard pattern matrix. The values of each element in the pattern matrix represent the color of the jacquard fabric's yarn in the jacquard fabric. This article mainly studied the two-color and three-color jacquard. Then according to the knitting principle of each type of jacquard, edited the algorithm in MATLAB to convert the pattern matrix into the knitting matrix of each color of the jacquard. The knitting movements of the jacquard which studied in this paper are as follows: the front-back needle beds are not knitted, the front needle bed is knitted, the back needle bed is knitted, and the front-back needle beds are knitted.Secondly, observed the yarn shape of the yarn on the knitting machine during jacquard knitting, and combined the knitting parameters to establish the structure length model of each type of jacquard by using geometric methods,so as to obtain the structure length expressions of each basic structure.Thirdly, analyzed the positional arrangement of the knitting movements in the knitting matrix of each type of jacquard's every color yarns. And combined the basic structure length expressions, edited the algorithm in MATLAB to accumulate the total length of the jacquard's every color yarn.Combined the total length of the yarns of each color of the jacquard with the density of the yarns of each color, finally, obtained the predicted value of the consumption of the yarns of each color of the jacquard. In summary, the prediction model for yarn consumption of the weft-knitted jacquard fabrics established in this paper can achieve the following aims: Firstly, input the jacquard pattern the actual knitting parameters, the yarn density and the type of jacquard into the MATLAB.Then, run the algorithm model, and finally output the predicted value of the consumption of the jacquard's every color yarn.In order to verify the accuracy of the prediction model, used this model to predict the consumption of each color of the four types of jacquard.Performed an error analysis between the predicted value and the actual value obtained by actual knitting. The error range of the model was -3.96% ? 4.83%.The error results showed that the model could predict the consumption of the jacquard's every color yarn within the error range of -3.96% ? 4.83%,which could provide a reference for estimating the yarn consumption and the cost in the jacquard fabric's design stage.
