The progressive collapse of structures under accidental actions has become a serious threat to the public safety, especially with the rapid development of high-rise building in recent decades the casualties and economic losses caused by the structural progressive collapse are enormous.Although many researchers have conducted on progressive collapse-resisting capacity of structure during the past decades, they are almost concentrated in simulation analysis and calculation and little research on related experiment has been reported.Based on a practical project in American,a 3-story 3-span half scale RC frame model was designed and constructed in accordance with seismic acceleration S1=0.117g.And the objective of this thesis is to assess the progressive collapse resistance performance of this structure by conducting model test and finite element analysis. In the paper,we research on the structure dynamic response, failure mechanism and changes in the load transfer paths by the progressive collapse experiment of the frame model. And in the experiment, the column to be removed were replaced by concrete blocks which were beaten by Hydrogen gun to simulate its failure. After the failure of the column the force that was withstood by this column transferred to the surrounding columns, and the structure did not collapse during the experiment. The experimental results show that the structure under seismic design has good anti-collapsed performance.Meanwhile,a finite element analysis using software SAP2000 is conducted to provide insight understanding and the comparison with the test results. The comparison indicates that the analytical results are in good agreement with the experimental results. To sum up,we can conclude that the structure under seismic design has good anti-collapsed performance from the experimental results and the finite element analysis. And this paper can provide a reference for the future research on progressive collapse-resisting capacity of structure and engineering applications.
