With the continuous pace of building a strong and smart grid,locating fault for lOkV overhead distribution network fastly and accurately has a great significance to improve power supply reliability.However,the complex model and multi-line branch node in lOkV overhead distribution network limit the study of fault location method.In this paper,fault location methods for lOkV overhead distribution network are studied based on traveling wave theory.As a result of that,new fault location method is presented by using the time that the first traveling wave reached the end of the feed lines and the length of lines.The main contents are as follows:(1)Travelling wave process is studied and analyzed in 10kV overhead distribution network on the basic of the traveling wave theory.(2)A fault location method for 10kV overhead distribution network based on D-type travelling wave theory is presented.This method chooses the measurement point which the first travelling wave reached as the reference measurement point,and then calculates more than one result of the distance between the reference measurement and the fault point.At last,selects the maximum of the results calculated as the final fault location result for the distribution network.The method does not need to determine the fault branch,and it improves the accuracy of fault location and the reliability of power supply.(3)Divide the 10kV overhead distribution network into several T-connection unit lines in this paper.Fault location method for T-connection lines based on traveling wave theory is studied.The fault location method for T-connection lines based on D-type traveling wave theory and the three-terminal location method for T-connection lines based on traveling waves are presented in this paper.On the basic of that,a new fault location method for 10kV overhead distribution network is presented by using traveling waves based on T-connection grouped.(4)Various situations are simulated and analyzed by ATP software and MATLAB software for T-connection lines and 10kV overhead distribution network.The results show that the fault location method for 10kV overhead distribution network can locate the fault simply,fastly,and accurately.The fault location method for lOkV overhead distribution network based on traveling wave theory presented in this paper has the advantage of simple calculation and needs not to determine fault branches.And it improves the accuracy of fault location.As a result of that,this method shorts the fault finding time,improves the reliability of power supply,and has a broad development prospect.
