Steel plate shear walls(SPSWs)is a structural system composed of braced panels or shear panels surrounding by beams and columns to form a core.In previous studies,it has been proved that steel plate shear wall structures are efficient in resisting lateral force induced by wind or earthquake in multi-story or high-rise buildings.Recently, some major buildings in USA,Canada and Japan utilized SPSWs as the primary lateral force resisting system.Since SPSWs have the disadvantages namely very lower buckling load, high tension load on the frame and pinch in the hysteresis curve, corrugated steel plate shear walls is proposed as an innovative lateral resisting system in this research. The aim of this study is to reveal the structural performance of the corrugated SPSWs,based on a large number of numerical analyses by using the finite element ANSYS 13.0 to verify the advantages and the disadvantages of corrugated SPSWs over ordinary flat SPSWs.Then structural performances between different forms of corrugated SPSWs were compared,to find out how to determine the parameter combinations such as the geometric size of the corrugated infill panel, and the stiffness of the surrounding frame etc.,to achieve good performance of the corrugated SPSW system.Monotonic loading of corrugated SPSWs was conducted, considering parameters such as geometric imperfections,height-to-thickness ratio, corrugation depth ratio,height-to-span ratio L/H,surrounding frame stiffness, and vertical compression of the frame. The result obtained indicated that, with selected proper parameters of height-to-thickness ratio,span-to-height ratio and corrugation depth ratio, stable ensure lateral loading-displacement curves can be ensured for corrugated SPSWs,and the maximum load-carrying capacity is close to the full yielding shear force Vy.Due to the corrugation profile, trapezoidally CSPSWs and sinusoidally CPSWs have much lower demand for the stiffness of the surrounding frame,in contrast to ordinary flat SPSWs.The comparison of SCSPSWs and TCSPSWs indicated that SCSPSWs have better performance than TCSPSWs on both initial stiffness and lateral loading capacity. The findings of this study provide suggestions to the design of corrugated SPSWs and help to understand the structural behaviors of corrugated SPSWs.
